Help us christen a new student-built plane—and enjoy some cake! The public is invited to the Aviation Museum of N.H. on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 9 a.m. for a special free ceremony as we welcome a brand new airplane recently completed by students at the Manchester School of Technology. The ceremony will include a water arch salute from the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport Fire Department, remarks from dignitaries, and afterwards a special cake celebrating the occasion.

A water salute in 2022 at the ribbon-cutting of the first plane built by MST students.

The plane, a two-seat all-metal Van’s RV-12iS recreational aircraft, was built entirely by MST students and our team of volunteer mentors, all under the supervision of MST aviation instructor Jeff Sullivan. It’s been in the workshop since 2023, with several dozen students working on assembly over the past few years.

For the Oct. 10 ribbon-cutting ceremony, we’ll taxi it over to the Aviation Museum, which is located at 27 Navigator Road, Londonderry. As always, any flying that day will depend on weather conditions and other factors—but we do hope to see the plane do what it was built to do and take to the skies!

The aircraft, registered as N833TF, is the second completed in this innovative hands-on program, a partnership started in 2019 between the Manchester School District, the Aviation Museum, and non-profit Tango Flight.

If planning to attend, please arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. to allow time to park and get a good viewing spot. The aircraft is expected to arrive just after 9 a.m., with remarks and a ribbon-cutting to take place out on the ramp. Afterwards, we’ll serve cake in the parking lot for all who attend.
