Did you know? A large scale model of the Kitty Hawk ‘Wright Flyer’—the aircraft the Wright Brothers used to first achieve powered flight in 1903—hangs above the entrance to the N.H. State Rest Area on the southbound side of Interstate 93.
This was an Aviation Museum of N.H. project from about 10 years ago, and it’s still there, complete with cockpit occupied by a big furry bear! (It’s also right outside the main entrance to the state Liquor Store.)
Thanks to the many volunteers who helped make this happen! And thanks also to Alex Ray and his colleagues at Common Man Roadside for the opportunity to have such visibility!
Next time you’re passing through this popular highway stop, look up! Although we’re actually based in the 1937 passenger terminal at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, the Wright Flyer shows one way in which we’re a state-wide organization!
