Thursday, Feb. 20: Experience ‘Back Country’ flying

Leave winter behind to soar through the Idaho wilderness in our next Exploring Aviation Series event on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m.

Bob Hough will speak about flying in Idaho’s challenging back country.

It was an aviation experience like none other, in some of the most beautiful and rugged terrain the U.S. has to offer.

In the spring of 2012, Windham-based pilot and Aviation Museum of N.H. board member Bob Hough experienced the trip of a lifetime while flying with his nephew in the mountains of Idaho.

Hough will present pictures and video of flights into some of the most remote and challenging airstrips in the country, all from the cockpit of a 260 horsepower Maule on Alaskan Bushwheels, an aircraft known for its utility, durability and short-field capability.

Don’t miss this opportunity to see flying as few ever get to experience it: one way in and out airstrips with 18 to 22 percent grades. According to Hough, the flying was exhilarating and the scenery stunning!

Returning to the Aviation Museum after a decade, this presentation reflects the close relationship between Hough and his nephew. Find out why past versions of this presentation ended with most of the group of over 100 pilots in attendance referring to Bob as “Uncle Bob.”

The program starts at 7 p.m. at the Aviation Museum of N.H. and is open to the public. Admission to the event is free for Aviation Museum members and $10 per person for non-members.

The Aviation Museum, a non-profit 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization based in the 1937 art deco passenger terminal at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, is dedicated to preserving the Granite State’s rich aviation past, and also inspiring today’s students to become the aviation and aerospace pioneers of tomorrow.

The Aviation Museum of N.H. was named “Best Place to Take Kids” and “Best Place to Geek Out” in southern New Hampshire in the 2024 HippoPress Reader’s Poll.
The museum is located at 27 Navigator Road, off Harvey Road, in Londonderry, N.H.
