Long before the Wright Brothers took to the sky, the original aviators were witches with their broomsticks.
In honor of that traditional, the Aviation Museum’s ‘Haunted Halloween Hangar’ event on Saturday, Oct. 19 was a spooktacular success!
Over 100 ghosts and goblins joined us for a day filled with laughter, Halloween fun, plus a little aviation lore slipped in among the treats.
Our ‘Broomstick Pilots’ earned their licenses from Glenda the Witch (volunteer Glenda Fisher), with the support of our amazing ghost aviators.
This year’s ghostly lineup included Jimmy Doolittle (volunteer Chuck Poltack), Amelia Earhart (Visitor Services Specialist Christine Bates), Charles Lindbergh (volunteer Dan Kelley), Alan Shepard (volunteer Rich Filteau), and Eddie Rickenbacker (Education Director Nate MacDonald).
These famous figures shared their aviation contributions with visiting goblins, who received treats and also earned their prestigious Broomstick License Certificate after listening carefully!
Thank you to all who made this event a frighteningly good time, including our spellbinding volunteers. Thanks also to Steve Heffelfinger for the photos. Happy Halloween—we look forward to welcoming everyone back next year to renew your Broomstick Pilot’s License!
