All invited to PlaneFest! on Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Aviation Museum

PlaneFest! on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Aviation Museum of N.H. gives young people a chance to see real aircraft on display.

Young people can take to the skies with local pilots on Saturday, Aug. 17 at this year’s PlaneFest! celebration.

PlaneFest!, a celebration of all things flight-related, is held each August at the Aviation Museum of N.H., 27 Navigator Road, Londonderry.

On Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Aviation Museum will host activities to help young people (and the young at heart) learn about aviation in a welcoming environment adjacent to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, the state’s major commercial air transport hub.

“It’s a great way to spend a summer day outside, with family-friendly activities designed to fire up curiosity about flight,” said Jeff Rapsis, the Aviation Museum’s executive director.

Activities will be held outdoors, weather permitting, and are free to all families. Led by Aviation Museum Education Director Nathaniel MacDonald, aviation-themed games and challenges are aimed at young people of elementary and middle school age.

Young people can also learn about careers in aviation by speaking to pilots, mechanics, air traffic controllers, and other professionals in the field.

At 1 p.m., the Aviation Museum will celebrate the birthday of aviation pioneer Orville Wright (Aug. 19, 1871) with a cake decorated in his honor. All are invited to enjoy a slice.

The event also includes a Young Eagles program that gives young people age 8-17 a chance to get a ride from a local pilot. The program, run by EAA Chapter 106, requires advance registration online.
